When rain disrupted our Suzhou silk workshop, Mengyang instantly reimagined the afternoon into a private ink painting session. “In Chinese art,” they explained, “chaos is the foundation of beauty—like the wild brushstrokes of a literati painter.” Under their guidance, we learned to paint cranes symbolizing “harmony in turbulence,” a metaphor Mengyang later applied to mediating a debate between our engineers and designers back home.
